Nicole grew up in a rural town in California surrounded by open spaces and clear skies. She spent a lot of time in nature always noticing the relationship between natural landscapes and structure imposed on it by humanity. In art college she explored various forms of expression from digital art to painting and typography. It wasn’t until her final year that she realized her interest in sculpture combined with found objects.
Exploring abandoned houses and old barns is where she discovered a fascination for finding objects that were once useful, but now rusted and decayed. She found beauty in these decrepit things that were being reclaimed by nature, existing in limbo between the human and natural worlds.
By collaborating with these orphaned, discarded bits and pieces, she creates sculptural puzzles that reveal a new entity. Her art portrays and plays with the impermanence of the man-made in an ever metamorphosing, living nature with which we all collaborate.
